IMHO covers are an important part of an music artist’s repertoire. They show contrast to their songwriting style, and if you know the original they allow you to hear their voice and sound on a familiar song.
If the artist brings a faithful rendition or a better rendition to the market, it’s all positive.
The Clash is one of those bands that did plenty of covers but generally chose obscure or outside their genre for material. They wrote plenty of great songs themselves, so these covers add some salt & pepper to their catalog, and due to various genre politics, many Clash fans don’t even know the originals.
